Abstract
Photosensitive polyesters having dye moieties incorporated into the polyester backbone are disclosed. The photosensitive polyesters contain an unsaturated photosensitive moiety comprising photopolymerizable —CH═CH—CO— groups and dye moieties derived from dyes that are copolymerizable diols. Negative-working photosensitive elements, such as negative-working printing plates, can be prepared using these photosensitive polyesters.
Claims21
A negative-working photosensitive composition comprising a photosensitive polyester that comprises:
- (a) an unsaturated photosensitive moiety comprising photopolymerizable —CH═CH—CO— groups, and
- (b) a dye moiety represented by Formula I or II:
- n which R is lower alkyl, halo, hydroxy, carboxy or carbonylalkoxy;
- R1 and R2 are independently lower alkyl, lower alkoxy or halo;
- R3 is hydrogen, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, halo, or —SO2N(R4)R5O— in which the sulfur is attached to a carbon of an aromatic ring of the dye moiety;
- R4 is hydrogen, methyl, ethyl or phenyl;
- R5 and R7 are independently alkylene having 2 to 7 carbon atoms or phenylene;
- R6 is hydrogen, methyl, ethyl or phenyl;
- R8 is hydrogen or —SO2N(R4)R5O— in which the sulfur is attached to a carbon of the aromatic ring of the dye moiety, with the proviso that either R3 or R8, but not both R3 and R8, is —SO2N(R4)R5O—;
- and p is 0, 1 or 2.
