Abstract
Fuel oil compositions containing specific mixtures of esters of unsaturated monocarboxylic acids show improved lubricity properties.
Claims21
A fuel oil composition comprising a major proportion of a middle distillate fuel oil having a sulphur content of 0.2% by weight or less, and a minor proportion of a lubricity additive comprising
- (a) an ester of an unsaturated monocarboxylic acid and a polyhydric alcohol, and
- (b) an ester of a polyunsaturated monocarboxylic acid and a polyhydric alcohol having at least three hydroxy groups,
- the esters (a) and (b) being different.
A fuel oil composition comprising a major proportion of middle distillate diesel fuel oil having a sulfur content of 0.01% by weight or less, and from about 75 to 300 ppm (active ingredient) by weight of
- (a) a monoester of oleic acid and glycerol, and
- (b) a monoester of linoleic acid and glycerol, and
- wherein the relativem proportion of (a) to (b) by weight is about 1:1.
A method of improving the lubricant of a middle distillate fuel oil having a sulfur content of 0.2% by weight or less, said method comprising adding to said middle distillate fuel oil from about 10 to 500 ppm (active ingredient) of a lubricity additive comprising
- (a) an ester or an unsaturated monocarboxylic acid and a polyhydric alcohol, and
- (b) an ester of a polyunsaturated monocarboxylic acid and a polyhydric alcohol having at least three hydroxy groups,
- the esters (a) and (b) being different.
A method of reducing the wear rate in a fuel supply system of a combustion apparatus comprising employing as a fuel oil composition in said combustion apparatus a fuel oil composition comprising a middle distillate fuel oil having a sulfur content of 0.2% by weight or less, and a minor proportion of a lubricity additive comprising
