Abstract
Cast padding materials and padding and lining materials for other orthopedic devices are made from three dimensional fiber networks which are semi-rigid and dimensionally stable. The fiber networks are made from textile fabrics that have projections and optional depressions which are compressible and return to their original shape after being compressed. The fiber networks are made by the thermo-mechanical deformation of textile fabrics that are in turn made from thermoplastic fibers.
Claims21
A padding or lining material for an orthopedic device used for bracing or fixation comprising a textile fabric, said textile fabric having a base plane, wherein a multiplicity of projections comprised of said textile fabric rises above said base plane, wherein said projections are resilient, returning substantially to their original shape after being compressed to 50% of their original height, said textile fabric comprising thermoplastic filaments wherein said thermoplastic filaments are monofils having a diameter of at least 0.1 mm.
A medical cast padding material comprising a textile fabric, said textile fabric having a base plane, wherein a multiplicity of projections comprised of said textile fabric rises above said base plane, wherein said projections are resilient, returning substantially to their original shape after being compressed to 50% of their original height, said textile fabric comprising thermoplastic filaments wherein said thermoplastic filaments are monofils having a diameter of at least about 0.1 mm.
