Abstract
Phosphotungstic acid salts are used to polymerize C.sub.2 -C.sub.30 .alpha.-olefins and derivatives thereof to form highly reactive products having a high content of terminal vinylidene groups and .beta.-isomers in resonance therewith. Isobutylene has been polymerized to form a Mn 300-20,000 polymer.
Claims10
A method for producing polymers by polymerization of olefins, the method comprising:
- contacting a C.sub.2 -C.sub.30 olefin of formula R'--C(R").uparw.CH.sub.2 where R' is H or hydrocarbyl and R"is H or methyl with a partially or fully neutralized heteropolyacid to produce said polymer, said polymer having a degree of polymerization (dp) of at least 6.
