Abstract
The present invention provides a method for the expression of heterologous genes, under the control of a Drosophila metollothionein promoter, inserted at high copy number into Drosophila melanogaster cells.
Claims3
A method for regulated expression of heterologous genes inserted at high copy number into cultured Drosophila melanogaster cells which comprises:
- transfecting Drosophila melanogaster cells with a gene expression unit having a Drosophila metallothionein promoter and a DNA sequence encoding a heterologous gene product;
- culturing the transfected cells in a suitable culture medium;
- and
- inducing said metallothionein promoter by the addition of copper or cadmium to the culture medium such that the heterologous gene product is expressed.
