Abstract
There are provided powder-free polymer coated rubber articles coated with a non-tacky acrylic based emulsion copolymer formed by polymerization of at least one low surface energy monomer, at least one alkyl acrylate and at least one hard monomer. The copolymers are preferably formed by sequential polymerization.
Claims18
A top coated article comprising a vacuum formed article having thereon a soft non-tacky coat of an emulsion copolymer of from about 0.7 to about 20% by weight of at least one copolymerizable low surface energy monomer, selected from the group consisting of reactive silicones, fluorocarbons and fatty acid esters having a functionality selected from the group consisting of vinyl, acrylic and methacrylic from about 30 to about 85% by weight of at least one alkyl acrylate containing from 1 to about 10 carbon atoms in the alkyl group, the balance of the monomers comprising hard monomers, said hard monomers, when homopolymerized having a glass transition temperature greater than about 25.degree. C. and present in an amount sufficient to produce a non-tacky emulsion copolymer.
A top coated article comprising a vacuum formed article substrate having therein a soft coat of an elastic, non-tacky, emulsion acrylic copolymer comprising of from about 0.7 to about 20% by weight of at least one copolymerizable silicone oligomer, from about 30 to about 85% by weight of at least one alkyl acrylate containing from 1 to about 10 carbon atoms in the alkyl group, the balance of the monomers comprising hard monomers, said hard monomers, when homopolymerized having a glass transition temperature greater than about 25.degree. C. and present in an amount sufficient to provide the non-tacky acrylic based emulsion copolymer.
A top coated article comprising a vacuum formed article having thereon a soft non-tacky coat of an emulsion copolymer of a first acrylic based emulsion copolymer and a second acrylic based emulsion copolymer, each of said first and second copolymers independently formed by emulsion polymerization of monomers comprised of from about 0.7 to about 20% by weight of at least one copolymerizable low surface energy monomer, selected from the group consisting of reactive silicones, fluorocarbons and fatty acid esters having a functionality selected from the group consisting of vinyl, acrylic and methacrylic, from about 30 to about 85% by weight of at least one alkyl acrylate containing from 1 to about 10 carbon atoms in the alkyl group, the balance of the monomers comprising hard monomers, which when homopolymerized, have a glass transition temperature greater than 25.degree. C. and provided in an amount sufficient to form a mixture of first and second acrylic based emulsion copolymers which are non-tacky, said first acrylic based emulsion copolymer having a glass transition temperature from about -50.degree. C. to about 25.degree. C., said second acrylic based emulsion copolymer having a glass transition temperature from about 25.degree. C. to about 100.degree. C.
