Abstract
Di-amines endowed with chain extension activity for formulations such as polyureas and polyurethanes are disclosed, and which have the general formula: ##STR1## wherein n is 0-1000; R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.5, and R.sub.6 are each independently selected from the group consisting of H, --CH.sub.3, --CH.sub.2 CH.sub.3, --CH.sub.2 OH, and --CH.sub.2 --CH.sub.2 --OH; R.sub.3 =R.sub.4, and R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 are from the group --CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 --; --CH.sub.2 --C(CH.sub.3)H--; and --C(CH.sub.3) H--CH.sub.2 --; and the diasteromeric salts thereof.
Claims13
A process for preparing di-amino compounds having the structural formula:
- ##STR6## wherein n is 0-1000;
- R.sub.3 equals R4, and R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 are from the group --CH.sub.2 --CH.sub.2 --;
- --CH.sub.2 --C(CH.sub.3)H--;
- and --C(CH.sub.3)H--CH.sub.2 --;
- and R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.5, and R.sub.6 are each independently selected from the group consisting of H, --CH.sub.3, --CH.sub.2 CH.sub.3, --CH.sub.2 OH, and --CH.sub.2 --CH.sub.2 --OH, which comprises the steps of (a) reacting an alkali metal hydroxide with 4hydroxyacetophenone to form the alkali metal salt of said 4-hydroxyacetophenone, (b) reacting the alkali metal salt of 4-hydroxyacetophenone with an oxide material selected from the group consisting of ethylene oxide and propylene oxide to form an oxylated material, and then, (c) subjecting the oxylated material to reductive amination, under suitable conditions of temperature from about 150.degree. to about 350.degree. and pressure from about 500 psi to about 10,000 psi in order to form the di-amino compounds covered by the structural formula (I) set forth above.
