Abstract
Novel 4-substituted acetophenone anils and methods for preparing 1,3,5-tris(4'-hydroxyphenyl)benzenes from 4-substituted acetophenones such as 4-hydroxyacetophenones or, from substituted 4-hydroxyacetophenone-anils such as 4-hydroxyacetophenone-anil by reacting the 4-substituted acetophenone or corresponding anil with an aniline derivative.
Claims7
A process for preparing a compound of the formula (III) ##STR6## wherein R is hydroxy, R.sup.1 is hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.12 alkyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 cycloalkyl, phenyl, halogen, nitro, or alkyl or aromatic sulfonyl, x is an integer from 1 to 4, and when x is greater than 1 each R.sup.1 thereof can be the same or different, said process comprising reacting a substituted 4-hydroxyacetophenone of the formula (II) ##STR7## wherein R, R.sup.1 and x are as defined above, at about 80.degree.-160.degree.0 C. for about 2-24 hours, and wherein compound II is present in at least three molar ratio quantities, with a substituted or unsubstituted aniline derivative, said substituents being selected from the group consisting of derivative being present in a molar ratio range of about a C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkoxy and halo groups, said aniline derivative being present in a molar ratio range of about 1:1 to about 10:
- 1 with respect to compound II.
A compound of the formula (III) ##STR8## wherein R is hydroxy, R.sup.1 is hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.12 lower alkyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 cycloalkyl, phenyl, halogen, nitro, or alkyl or aromatic sulfonyl, x is an integer from 1 to 4, and when x is greater than 1, each R.sup.1 thereof can be the same or different.
