Abstract
Spherical resin particles in micron order with a narrow particle diameter distribution, methods for the production thereof and uses thereof are disclosed. Overcoming various problems comprised in the hitherto-known polymerization granulation methods, resin particles using a condensation polymer in micron order of the present invention having spherical form and narrow particle diameter distribution serve well for various applications.
Claims9
A method for producing resin particles comprising the steps of preparing a micro-dispersion of a condensation polymer containing at least one ionic group and having an average diameter (d) of not more than 1.0 .mu.m in a liquid medium, and allowing said micro-dispersed particles to coalesce by maintaining a uniform amount of ions on the surface of the micro-dispersed particles by adding a compound having counter ions or an electrolyte to produce particles comprising, as the main component, a spherical condensation polymer having an average particle diameter ranging from 0.1 to 100 .mu.m, wherein the condensation polymer is at least 80% by weight of the particles.
A method for producing resin particles comprising the steps of preparing a micro-dispersion in an aqueous dispersion medium containing at least 50% by weight of water and a condensation polymer containing ionic groups and having an average diameter of not more than 1.0 .mu.m, and allowing the aforesaid micro-dispersed condensation polymer to coalesce by adding a monomer containing counter ionic groups (B') to the ionic groups (A') contained in the condensation polymer and a polymerizable double bond in the molecule, followed by polymerization of the monomer, to produce resin particles comprising, as the main component, a spherical condensation polymer having an average particle diameter ranging from 0.1 to 100 .mu.m, wherein the condensation polymer is at least 80% by weight of the particles.
