Abstract
An aqueous solvent composition for pre-etching plastic materials prior to plating with metal consists essentially of an aqueous solution containing a component selected from diethylene glycol monobutyl ether acetate, diethylene glycol monoethyl ether acetate, and mixtures thereof, and preferably containing a surfactant.

A method of preparing the surface of a polycarbonate, polysulfone, or polyester for plating with a metal, which method comprises applying to the said surface a solvent composition consisting essentially of an aqueous solution containing a component selected from the group consisting of diethylene glycol monobutyl ether acetate, diethylene glycol monoethyl ether acetate, and mixtures thereof.
