Abstract
Novel tobacco compositions which when subjected to an elevated temperature below the combustion temperature the tobacco liberates essentially pure nicotine. The invention also includes a method for liberating nicotine from the compositions and a device for carrying out the method.
Claims9
Device for the release and administration of nicotine in gaseous form, comprising receiving means (10, 30) which has a receiving space (11, 31) provided therein with an inlet and an outlet (12, 36) and in which a matrix containing the nicotine is insertable, and a mouthpiece (19, 32) communicating with the outlet (12, 36) of said receiving space, characterized by a heating element (14;
- 40;
- 48, 49, 50) associated with said receiving space (11, 31), said heating element being adapted to produce heat in said space (11, 31), said heating element itself or subsidiary temperature control means (17;
- 41) being selected or provided for restricting the temperature in the receiving space (11, 31) to a predetermined value below the combustion temperature of the matrix, said device being completely self-contained and having no external electrical connection, characterized in that the heating element (40) consists of a heating coil connectible to a battery (39) contained therein and disposed in a wall defining the receiving space (31).
Device for the release and administration of nicotine in gaseous form, comprising receiving means (10, 30) which has a receiving space (11, 31) provided therein with an inlet and an outlet (12, 36) and in which a matrix containing the nicotine is insertable, and a mouthpiece (19, 32) communicating with the outlet (12, 36) of said receiving space, characterized by a heating element (14;
- 40;
- 48, 49, 50) associated with said receiving space (11, 31), said heating element being adapted to produce heat in said space (11,31), said heating element itself or subsidiary temperature control means (17;
- 41) being selected or provided for restricting the temperature in the receiving space (11, 31) to a predetermined value below the combustion temperature of the matrix, said device being completely self-contained and having no external electrical connection, characterized in that the heating element (46, 47) consists of a gas burner with an igniter (47) which is adapted to ignite gas flowing from a gas space (42) through a control valve (46) to a channel (43) communicating with the ambient atmosphere and containing a gas-pereable material (48) and adjoining the receiving space (31).
Device for the release and administration of nicotine in gaseous form, comprising receiving means (10, 30) which has a receiving space (11, 31) provided therein with an inlet and an outlet (12, 36) and in which a matrix containing the nicotine is insertable, and a mouthpiece (19, 32) communicating with the outlet (12, 36) of said receiving space, characterized by a heating element (14;
- 40;
- 48, 49, 50) associated with said receiving space (11, 31), said heating element being adapted to produce heat in said space (11,31), said heating element itself or subsidiary temperature control means (17;
- 41) being selected or provided for restricting the temperature in the receiving space (11, 31) to a predetermined value below the combustion temperature of the matrix, said device being completely self-contained and having no external electrical connection, characterized in that the heating element consists of a container holding two fluids (49, 50) separated by a rupturable partition (51) and selected from the group of fluids which produce heat when mixed.
