Abstract
Described is a warning agent for the odorization of gaseous hydrocarbon fuels based on mixtures of at least one of the compounds, 2-methoxy-3-isobutyl pyrazine having the structure: ##STR1## and 4-methyl-4-mercapto-2-pentanone having the structure: ##STR2## with a monomercaptan or a sulfide.
Claims11
A warning agent suitable for the odorization of gaseous hydrocarbon fuel, said agent selected from the group consisting of (i) 4-methyl-4-mercapto-2-pentanone, (ii) 2-methoxy-3-isobutyl pyrazine and (iii), mixtures of same in addition, a gas odorant selected from the group consisting of monomercaptans, acyclic and cyclic sulfides and mixtures of same.
A process for the odorization of a hydrocarbon fuel gas which comprises incorporating in said gas an effective odorizing quantity of a warning mixture (i) a substance selected from the group consisting of 4-methyl-4-mercapto-2-pentanone, 2-methoxy-3-isobutyl pyrazine and mixtures of same and (ii) a gas odorant selected from the group consisting of monomercaptans, acyclic sulfides, cyclic sulfides and mixtures of same.
