An air/fuel ratio control system for use in an internal combustion engine, which is adapted to initiate air/fuel ratio control upon concurrent fulfillment of a first condition that a first predetermined period of time which is provided as a period of time from the start of the engine to the warming-up of the engine is determined in dependence on the engine temperature available at the start of the engine by means of a first timer circuit and the first timer circuit finishes counting the first predetermined period of time, and a second condition that a second timer circuit finishes counting a second predetermined period of time after the internal resistance of an O.sub.2 sensor for detecting the oxygen concentration in the engine exhaust gases has dropped below a predetermined value.
In an air/fuel ratio control system for use with an internal combustion engine having an exhaust system, including an O.sub.2 sensor provided in the exhaust system of the engine for detecting the concentration of oxygen present in exhaust gases emitted from the engine;
