Abstract
A class of new oxygen-activated free-radical polymerization catalysts, comprising specifically-defined autoxidizable cyclic hydrocarbons together with cobalt(II) compounds, is disclosed. A method of catalyzing an oxygen-initiated free-radical polymerization reaction using these catalysts is also disclosed.
Claims12
A stabilized oxidation catalyst comprising a mixture of (a) a storage stabilizer having the formula ##STR25## and (b) an oxidation catalyst consisting essentially of:
- (1) an autoxidizable component having the formula ##STR26## and mixtures thereof, wherein each R.sub.3 is hydrogen, methyl, phenyl or COOH;
- R.sub.4 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.20 alkyl or alkenyl;
- and n is from about 1 to 10;
- and (2) a peroxide-decomposing transition metal catalyst.
