Abstract
Adenine is produced by reacting hydrogen cyanide with formamide in the presence of an ammonium salt and a catalytic amount of methyldisulfide at elevated temperature and pressure.

A process for producing adenine which comprises reacting hydrogen cyanide with formamide in the presence of an ammonium salt and a catalytic amount of methyldisulfide at elevated temperature and pressure.
