Abstract
The esterification of neo acids catalyzed by the presence of a macro-reticular structured sulfonic acid cation exchange resin proceeds under mild conditions with a wide variety of alcohols to give readily recoverable esters in high yields and high purity and an easily recoverable and reusable catalyst.
Claims5
A method for the direct esterification of a neo acid having from 5 to 28 carbon atoms in its molecule which comprises contacting said acid with an alcohol in a non-aqueous system in the presence of a sulfonic acid cation exchange resin used in its acid form and having a macro-reticular structure.
