Abstract
To increase the corrosion resistance of nitrided structural parts made of iron materials which are useful for all types of iron and steel there is carried out an oxidation treatment in connection with the nitriding process. The oxidation treatment is carried out for 15 to 50 minutes in an oxidizing salt bath. The salt bath preferably consists of alkali hydroxides with 2 to 20% of alkali nitrates.
Claims3
In a process for the treatment of nitrided structural parts of iron work pieces by an oxidation treatment subsequent to the nitriding process, the improvement comprising increasing the corrosion resistance of the nitrided parts by treating at a temperature of 250.degree. to 450.degree. C. in an oxidizing salt bath consisting of an alkali hydroxide with 2 to 20% of alkali nitrate for 25 to 50 minutes.
