Abstract
This invention relates to meso-ionic tetrazole compounds of the formula: ##STR1## wherein X.sup.- is -S.sup.- or -Se.sup.- which are useful as photographic additives and to an intermediate useful in the preparation thereof having the formula: ##STR2##

A process which comprises reacting 5-methylthio-1-phenyltetrazole and triethyloxonium fluoroborate at a temperature of between about 15.degree. and 40.degree. C. in anhydrous dichloromethane to yield 3-ethyl-5-methylthio-1-phenyltetrazolium fluoroborate and isolating said fluoroborate.
