Abstract
Examples of a multipurpose coupling mechanism are disclosed. In an example, an apparatus includes a PCB, a top cover at a top surface of the PCB, a bottom plate at a bottom surface of the PCB, at least one coupling mechanism that includes a captive screw and a spring around the captive screw, wherein the at least one coupling mechanism is configured to press the top cover, the PCB, and the bottom plate together, and expose threads of the captive screw at the bottom plate for attachment to a base board.

An apparatus comprising:
- a printed circuit board (PCB);
- a top cover at a top surface of the PCB;
- a bottom plate at a bottom surface of the PCB;
- and
- at least one coupling mechanism that includes a captive screw and a spring around the captive screw, wherein the at least one coupling mechanism is configured to;
- press the top cover, the PCB, and the bottom plate together;
- and
- expose threads of the captive screw at the bottom plate for attachment to a base board.

- a printed circuit board (PCB);
- a bottom plate at a bottom surface of the PCB;
- a top cover at a top surface of the PCB;
- and
- at least one captive screw having a screw head, a shank, and threads;
- and
- at least one spring around the shank of the captive screw;
- the top cover including an opening having a first portion and a second portion, wherein a diameter of the first portion of the opening is greater than a diameter of the second portion of the opening, and wherein the diameter of first portion of the opening accommodates the shank and the spring and the diameter of the second portion of the opening accommodates the shank but not the spring;
- the bottom plate including a threaded opening wherein the threads of the captive screw mate with the threaded opening of the bottom plate;
- and
- the captive screw positioned within the opening of the top cover, within an opening in the PCB, and within the threaded opening of the bottom plate.

- a captive screw for a printed circuit board (PCB) module that includes a PCB, a bottom plate, and a top cover, the captive screw including;
- a screw head;
- a shank configured to pass through an opening in the top cover and an opening in the PCB, and having a first portion with a first diameter and a second portion with a second diameter, wherein the first diameter is greater than the second diameter;
- and
- threads, wherein the threads are configured to mate with threads of an opening in the bottom plate and to engage a base board upon passing through the opening in the bottom plate.
