Abstract
An electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection system including an ionizing light source configured to emit ionizing light directed in an area and a control component configured to operate the ionizing light source to reduce risk of an ESD event in the area. The system also can include an electrostatic sensor configured to acquire electrostatic data, and which can be associated with an ESD sensitive object. The control component can use the electrostatic data to operate the ionizing light source based on a determined likelihood of an ESD event. The ESD protection system can be configured for use in a data center, where one or more data center racks can include an electrostatic sensor and/or ionizing light source.
Claims21
An electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection system comprising:
- an electrostatic sensor configured to be associated with an ESD sensitive object;
- a control component configured to receive electrostatic data acquired by the electrostatic sensor and determine a likelihood of an ESD event using the electrostatic data;
- and
- an ionizing light source configured to emit ionizing light directed in an area near the ESD sensitive object, wherein the control component is configured to activate the ionizing light source to emit the ionizing light in response to a determination that the likelihood of the ESD event exceeds a predetermined threshold.
A data center comprising:
- a data center control system configured to manage operation of the data center and maintain an environment within the data center;
- and
- a plurality of data center racks, at least one of the plurality of data center racks including:
- a plurality of shelves, each shelf configured to hold at least one ESD sensitive computing component;
- at least one electrostatic sensor associated with at least one of the plurality of shelves, wherein the at least one electrostatic sensor is configured to acquire electrostatic data;
- and
- an ionizing light source configured to emit ionizing light directed in an area near the at least one of the plurality of shelves, wherein an ESD control component is configured to determine a likelihood of an ESD event using the electrostatic data and activate the ionizing light source to emit the ionizing light in response to a determination that the likelihood of the ESD event exceeds a predetermined threshold.
An electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection system for an environment including an ESD sensitive object, the ESD protection system comprising:
- a plurality of ionizing light sources, wherein each of the plurality of ionizing light sources is configured to emit ionizing light directed in an area of the environment;
- and
- a control component configured to operate the plurality of ionizing light sources to reduce risk of an ESD event in the environment.
