Abstract
The present disclosure describes an access point that coordinates infrastructure and non-infrastructure communications. The access point includes one or more memories and one or more processors communicatively coupled to the one or more memories. The one or more processors determine that access points of an extended service set are refraining from using a first channel and communicate, to a first device, a first beacon comprising a channel usage element indicating that the first channel is available for the first device to use to communicate directly with a second device.
Claims27
A method comprising
- implementing, by an access point, an infrastructure Basic Service Set (BSS) on a first operating channel within a frequency band,
- wherein the access point is part of a wireless network infrastructure comprising one or more additional access points;
- accessing, by the access point, information indicating one or more second operating channels, the one or more second operating channels identified as not used by the access point or the one or more additional access points;
- generating one or more wireless frames, each of the one or more wireless frames including channel usage information indicating the one or more second operating channels and that the one or more second operating channels are not used by the access point or the one or more additional access points;
- and
- transmitting, by the access point, the one or more wireless frames.
An access point (AP) comprising
- a processor;
- and
- a memory communicatively coupled to the processor, wherein the memory comprises management logic configured to perform operations comprising:
- implementing an infrastructure Basic Service Set (BSS) on a first operating channel within a frequency band,
- wherein the access point is part of a wireless network infrastructure comprising one or more additional access points;
- accessing information indicating one or more second operating channels, the one or more second operating channels identified as not used by the access point or the one or more additional access points;
- generating one or more wireless frames, each of the one or more wireless frames including channel usage information indicating the one or more second operating channels and that the one or more second operating channels are not used by the access point or the one or more additional access points;
- and
- transmitting, by the access point, the one or more wireless frames.
A non-transitory computer readable storage medium comprising instructions that when executed configure one or more processors of an access point (AP) to perform operations comprising:
- implementing an infrastructure Basic Service Set (BSS) on a first operating channel within a frequency band,
- wherein the access point is part of a wireless network infrastructure comprising one or more additional access points;
- accessing information indicating one or more second operating channels, the one or more second operating channels identified as not used by the access point or the one or more additional access points;
- generating one or more wireless frames, each of the one or more wireless frames including channel usage information indicating the one or more second operating channels and that the one or more second operating channels are not used by the access point or the one or more additional access points;
- and
- transmitting, by the access point, the one or more wireless frames.
