Buffering packets to manage time delays in a bonded data connection

An apparatus comprising:

• a processor configured to
• transmit and receive packets associated with a virtual private network (VPN) server over a plurality of communication channels;
• measure packet delays based on times associated with the received packets for each of the plurality of communication channels over a period of time;
• create a time delay based on the measured packet delays;
• bond the plurality of communication channels together to form a single data connection;
• and
• apply the time delay to subsequently received packets for one or more of the plurality of communication channels causing each of the subsequently received packets to be delivered with a same time duration between each packet.

A non-transitory computer readable storage medium configured to store instructions that when executed cause a processor to perform:

• transmitting and receiving packets between a client device and a virtual private network (VPN) server over a plurality of communication channels;
• measuring packet delays based on times associated with the received packets for each of the plurality of communication channels over a period of time;
• creating a time delay based on the measured packet delays;
• bonding the plurality of communication channels together to form a single data connection;
• and
• applying the time delay to subsequently received packets for one or more of the plurality of communication channels causing each of the subsequently received packets to be delivered to a client device with a same time duration between each packet.
