A Redundancy System and Switchable TIA

A redundancy system, comprising:

• a switchable driver with two or more outputs;
• a switchable transimpedance amplifier (a switchable TIA) with two or more inputs;
• two or more photonic data channels coupled between the two or more outputs and the two or more inputs;
• and
• a redundancy management system configured to:
• assign a first photonic data channel to forward a first data packet from the switchable driver to the switchable TIA, wherein assigning includes selecting the first photonic data channel in the switchable driver and selecting the first photonic data channel in the switchable TIA;
• send an acknowledgement of receipt on receiving the first data packet in the switchable TIA;
• wait up to a timeout time for receiving the acknowledgement of receipt;
• determine if the acknowledgement of receipt has been received within the timeout time;
• and
• upon determining that the acknowledgement of receipt has not been received within the timeout time, assign a second photonic data channel to forward the first data packet from the switchable driver to the switchable TIA and resend the first data packet over the second photonic data channel.
