A process of tracking comprises configuring a reader to wirelessly communicate with tags within an asset-tracking space and a task identifying a tag that is associated with an asset of interest. A sensor detects that the task has commenced by determining that an asset has been placed on an asset conveyance mechanism. The reader receives information (including identifier data) from the tags, and signal strength data for the tags is also obtained by the reader. The sensor detects that task has ended when the asset has been removed from the asset conveyance mechanism. Packets are created including the identifier data and signal strength data for the tags at a specific time. The packets are evaluated by identifying which of the tags that are present within a select one or more of the packets and surpass a signal strength threshold. Then a predetermined action based on the evaluation is performed.
