Avatar-based sports betting

A computer-implemented method of facilitating wagers through an avatar-based virtual environment, the method comprising:

• receiving, at a server from a client device over a network, a registration request relating to at least one real-world event;
• transmitting, from the server to the client device over the network, a response message comprising information on an identifier related to the at least one real-world event and odds related to the at least one real-world event;
• receiving, at the server, real-world event data representing at least one measurable attribute of the at least one real-world event;
• generating, by at least one processor, a derivative representation from the at least one measurable attribute;
• mapping, by the at least one processor, the derivative representation to a virtual event mechanic within the avatar-based virtual environment, the virtual event mechanic determining at least one visual characteristic of a digital avatar related to the real-world event;
• receiving, at the server from the client device, a wager on an outcome determinable from the derivative representation;
• transmitting, from the server to the client device, an update message comprising information derived from the derivative representation, the update message causing the client device to update a display of the digital avatar within the avatar-based virtual environment;
• and
• initiating, by the at least one processor, a transaction with a user account related to the wager based on the derivative representation and at least the outcome of the at least one real-world event.
