Secure biometric algorithm provision

A non-transitory machine-readable medium including instructions, which when executed by processing circuitry, cause the processing circuitry to perform operations including:

• receiving, at a hardware facial recognition processing device, a firmware update including a facial recognition authentication algorithm;
• verifying a digital signature of the facial recognition authentication algorithm, wherein the digital signature of the facial recognition authentication algorithm is generated using a key of a manufacturer of the hardware facial recognition processing device, and wherein verifying the digital signature includes receiving an indication from the manufacturer that the digital signature is valid;
• in response to verifying the digital signature, loading the facial recognition authentication algorithm into firmware of the hardware facial recognition processing device;
• receiving information corresponding to an image of a face;
• determining, at the hardware facial recognition processing device, whether the face is authenticated using the facial recognition authentication algorithm;
• and
• outputting an indication of whether the face is authenticated.

A method comprising:

• receiving, at a hardware biometric processing device, a firmware update including a biometric authentication algorithm;
• verifying a digital signature of the biometric authentication algorithm, wherein the digital signature of the biometric authentication algorithm is generated using a key of a manufacturer of the hardware biometric processing device, and wherein verifying the digital signature includes receiving an indication from the manufacturer that the digital signature is valid;
• in response to verifying the digital signature, loading the biometric authentication algorithm into firmware of the hardware biometric processing device;
• receiving information corresponding to an image of a user;
• determining, at the hardware biometric processing device, whether the user is authenticated using the biometric authentication algorithm and the image;
• and
• outputting an indication of whether the user is authenticated.
