Translating Modification Instructions For Cloned Replica Data

A storage system comprising:

• a plurality of storage devices;
• and
• a storage system controller, operatively coupled to the plurality of storage devices, configured to:
• receive, at a target data repository, an instruction to modify a tracking copy of replica data, the tracking copy maintaining updates received from a source data repository;
• translate the instruction into a corresponding modification operation for a clone of the tracking copy;
• and
• execute the corresponding modification operation on the clone while maintaining the tracking copy unmodified.

A non-transitory computer readable storage medium storing instructions which, when executed, cause a storage system controller to:

• receive, at a target data repository, an instruction to modify a tracking copy of replica data, the tracking copy maintaining updates received from a source data repository;
• translate the instruction into a corresponding modification operation for a clone of the tracking copy;
• and
• execute the corresponding modification operation on the clone while maintaining the tracking copy unmodified.
