Projection device

An optical system for a near-eye projection of an image into an eye of a user, the optical system comprising a projection portion and a focusing portion, wherein

• the projection portion is configured to project light encoding the image, and
• the focusing portion is configured to converge the light to at least one convergent point so as to cause the projected light to enter the eye and form an image on the retina,
• wherein the at least one convergent point is located on a convergent arc on or near a pupil of the eye, wherein a respective location of each convergent point on the convergent arc corresponds to an angle of rotation of the eye about an ocular rotation axis, the convergent arc having a centre of curvature substantially coincident with the ocular rotation axis.

A method for a near-eye projection of an image into an eye of a user, the method comprising:

• projecting light encoding the image, and
• converging the light to at least one convergent point so as to cause the projected light to enter the eye and form an image on the retina,
• wherein the at least one convergent point is located on a convergent arc on or near a pupil of the eye, wherein a respective location of each convergent point on the convergent arc corresponds to an angle of rotation of the eye about an ocular rotation axis, the convergent arc having a centre of curvature substantially coincident with the ocular rotation axis.
