A superconducting magnet apparatus includes a vacuum vessel, a radiation shield, a static magnetic field coil, and a closed loop coil. The radiation shield is accommodated in the vacuum vessel. The static magnetic field coil is accommodated in the radiation shield and includes a high-temperature superconducting wire that is wound around a central axis of the vacuum vessel and excited by receiving a current supplied from an excitation power supply. The closed loop coil is electrically independent of the static magnetic field coil, and includes a winding portion including the high-temperature superconducting wire wound around the central axis and a shorting circuit that shorts the winding portion with the high-temperature superconducting wire.
