Abstract

A method of monitoring a digging operation performed by a work machine is provided. The method comprises receiving data indicative of the power available to the actuators of the work machine used to perform the digging operation over the duration of the digging operation. Data is also received which is indicative of the power consumed by the actuators of the work machine used to perform the digging operation over the duration of the digging operation. The method comprises calculating a total energy consumed by the actuators of the work machine based on the data indicative of the power consumed by the actuators over the duration of the digging operation. The method also comprises calculating a total energy available to the actuators of the work machine over the duration of the digging operation. The method also comprises calculating a digging efficiency parameter based on the ratio of the total energy consumed to the total energy available over the duration of the digging operation. The method also comprises outputting the digging efficiency parameter.
