A portable electric rivet nut setting tool comprising an electric motor having a motor output shaft, a rivet nut setting mechanism having a threaded rod portion for mating with a rivet nut to be set and an anvil against which the rivet nut can be urged in use, the rivet nut setting mechanism being operatively coupled to the motor output shaft via a transmission of the tool which in use causes linear relative movement between the threaded rod portion and the anvil for setting a rivet nut in use, the transmission comprising a conversion mechanism for converting torque into a linear force for causing said linear relative movement between the threaded rod portion and the anvil of the rivet nut setting mechanism.
