The invention provides a composition for use in preventing and/or treating a viral infection in a subject, wherein the composition comprises Bifidobacterium longum subsp. infantis and a HMO mixture consisting of 2′-fucosyllactose (2FL), difucosyllactose (DFL), lacto-N-tetraose (LNT), 6′-sialyllactose (6SL), 3′-sialyllactose (3SL), and lacto-N-neotetraose (LNnT), and optionally 3-fucosyllactose (3FL). The invention also provides the composition for use in preventing and/or reducing the risk of allergen sensitisation, preventing and/or reducing the risk of developing a respiratory condition in a subject, and/or preventing and/or reducing the risk of developing asthma in a subject.
A method of preventing and/or treating a viral infection in a subject, the method comprising administering a composition to the subject, wherein the composition comprises Bifidobacterium longum subsp. infantis and a HMO mixture consisting of 2′-fucosyllactose (2FL), difucosyllactose (DFL), lacto-N-tetraose (LNT), 6′-sialyllactose (6SL), 3′-sialyllactose (3SL), and lacto-N-neotetraose (LNnT), and optionally 3-fucosyllactose (3FL).
A method of i) preventing and/or reducing a risk of allergen sensitisation in the respiratory tract and/or ii) preventing and/or reducing a risk of developing a respiratory condition in a subject, the method comprising administering a composition to the subject, wherein the composition comprises Bifidobacterium longum subsp. infantis and a HMO mixture consisting of 2′-fucosyllactose (2FL), difucosyllactose (DFL), lacto-N-tetraose (LNT), 6′-sialyllactose (6SL), 3′-sialyllactose (3SL), and lacto-N-neotetraose (LNnT), and optionally 3-fucosyllactose (3FL), and wherein the respiratory condition is a chronic inflammatory disease of the respiratory tract or an allergic respiratory tract disease.
A method of preventing and/or reducing a risk of developing asthma in a subject, the method comprising administering a composition to the subject, wherein the composition comprises Bifidobacterium longum subsp. infantis and a HMO mixture consisting of 2′-fucosyllactose (2FL), difucosyllactose (DFL), lacto-N-tetraose (LNT), 6′-sialyllactose (6SL), 3′-sialyllactose (3SL), and lacto-N-neotetraose (LNnT), and optionally 3-fucosyllactose (3FL).
