Fruit-based freeze-dried edibles

A freeze-dried puree composition comprising a mixture of:

• a) at least 50% by weight of a fruit puree;
• b) one or more nutraceuticals for achieving a desired therapeutic effect;
• c) at least 2% by weight of an edible oil;
• and
• d) at least 0.2% by weight of an edible wax, wherein the puree composition is poured into a mold and freeze-dried in the form of a pellet which melts in the mouth.

A process for the preparation of a puree composition in the form of freeze-dried pellets, the process comprising the steps of:

• a) adding one or more nutraceuticals to a fruit puree;
• b) adding an edible oil to the fruit puree containing the one or more nutraceuticals;
• c) mixing the fruit puree, the one or more nutraceuticals, and the edible oil until they are uniform throughout the composition, thereby making a homogeneous puree composition;
• d) pouring the puree composition into a mold for forming the puree composition into pellets;
• and
• e) freeze-drying the pellets in the mold containing the puree composition until the water content is less than about 5% by weight.
