Abstract
A specimen collection container assembly including a collection tube having a first open end and a second open end, and an interior reservoir formed within the collection tube. The assembly further includes a cap configured to be couplable to the collection tube to close the first open end, as well as a plug configured to be couplable to the collection tube to close the second open end. The collection tube also includes a flat mouth portion extending 360° around the first open end.
Claims17
A specimen collection container assembly comprising:
- a collection tube having:
- a first open end;
- a second open end defining an open tube bottom;
- a sidewall extending between the first open end and the second open end;
- a flat mouth portion extending 360° around the first open end to provide a lip that defines an opening of the first open end;
- and
- an interior reservoir formed within the collection tube;
- a cap configured to be couplable to the collection tube to close the first open end;
- and
- a plug configured to be couplable to the collection tube to close the open tube bottom, the plug comprising:
- a closed rounded bottom portion including a shoulder;
- and
- a cylindrical body portion extending outwardly from the shoulder;
- wherein the plug is pressed into the open tube bottom so that the cylindrical body portion is positioned within the collection tube and the shoulder abuts the open tube bottom.
A specimen collection container assembly comprising:
- a collection tube having:
- a first open end;
- a second open end defining an open tube bottom;
- a sidewall extending between the first open end and the second open end, the sidewall including an inset ring formed therein proximate the open tube bottom;
- a flat mouth portion extending 360° around the first open end to provide a lip that defines an opening of the first open end;
- and
- an interior reservoir formed within the collection tube;
- a cap configured to be couplable to the collection tube to close the first open end;
- and
- a plug configured to be couplable to the collection tube to close the open tube bottom, the plug comprising:
- a closed bottom portion including a shoulder;
- and
- a pair of flanges extending outwardly from the shoulder, each of the pair of flanges including a raised tab formed thereon;
- wherein the raised tabs are sized and configured to engage the inset ring to provide a snap or click feedback when the plug is fully inserted into the open tube bottom.
A specimen collection container assembly comprising:
- a collection tube having:
- a first open end;
- a second open end defining an open tube bottom;
- a sidewall extending between the first open end and the second open end, the sidewall including an inset ring formed therein proximate the open tube bottom;
- and
- a flat mouth portion extending 360° around the first open end to provide a lip that defines an opening of the first open end;
- and
- an interior reservoir formed within the collection tube;
- a cap configured to be couplable to the collection tube to close the first open end;
- and
- a plug configured to be couplable to the collection tube to close the open tube bottom, the plug comprising:
- a closed bottom portion including a shoulder;
- and
- a cylindrical stud extending outwardly from the bottom portion, the cylindrical stud including a plurality of angled prongs extending therefrom;
- and
- an elastomeric O-ring positioned around the cylindrical stud and retained in-place relative to the shoulder via the plurality of angled prongs;
- wherein the plug is pressed into the open tube bottom until the shoulder abuts the open tube bottom, with the O-ring sized and configured to provide an interference fit with the collection tube.
