Abstract
An electrical cable having two ends and including a plurality of sub-cables extending between the two ends of the cable. The sub-cables are electrically insulated from one another along their lengths and each sub-cable provides a respective alternative electrical current path between the two ends of the cable. Each sub-cable includes: a superconductor portion including a plurality of high temperature superconducting (HTS) tapes including HTS material; and a resistor connected in series with the superconductor portion.
Claims22
An electrical cable having two ends and comprising a plurality of sub-cables extending between the two ends of the cable, the sub-cables being electrically insulated from one another along their lengths and each sub-cable providing a respective alternative electrical current path between the two ends of the cable, each sub-cable comprising:
- a superconductor portion comprising a plurality of high temperature superconductor (HTS), tapes comprising HTS material;
- and
- a resistor connected in series with the superconductor portion.
An electrical cable according to claim wherein each resistor is connected to the superconductor portion of the corresponding sub-cable by a respective current lead, each resistor having or being configurable to have a resistance that is greater than a resistance of the corresponding current lead.
