Abstract
Some embodiments provide a data provenance tracking system for data objects of a data transmission system. The data provenance tracking system may detect events and update the data provenance graph accordingly. The data provenance tracking system may further use the data provenance graph to trace data objects to originating users (e.g., by identifying which users instantiated a set of data objects).
Claims20
A data provenance tracking system for data objects of a data transmission system, the data transmission system comprising a plurality of users that can instantiate, transmit, and remove data objects in the data transmission system, the data provenance tracking system comprising:
- memory storing:
- a data structure encoding a data provenance graph, the data provenance graph indicating a record of data object instantiations, data object transmissions, and data object removals in the data transmission system;
- and
- at least one processor configured to:
- detect a first event comprising removal of a plurality of objects from the data transmission system;
- update the data provenance graph to indicate the removal of the plurality of data objects from the data transmission system to generate an updated data provenance graph;
- and
- identify a first one of the plurality of users that instantiated a first set of data objects of the plurality of data objects in the data transmission system, wherein the at least one processor is configured to identify the first user by performing:
- identify, in the updated data provenance graph, at least one path leading to the removal of the plurality of data objects;
- and
- determine, using the at least one path identified in the data provenance graph, that the first user instantiated the first set of data objects.
A method for tracking system for data objects of a data transmission system, the data transmission system comprising a plurality of users that can instantiate, transmit, and remove data objects in the data transmission system, the method comprising:
- using at least one processor:
- detecting a first event comprising removal of a plurality of objects from the data transmission system;
- accessing, from memory, a data structure encoding a data provenance graph indicating a history of data object instantiations, data object transmissions, and data object removals in the data transmission system
- updating the data provenance graph to indicate the removal of the plurality of data objects from the data transmission system to generate an updated data provenance graph, the data provenance graph;
- and
- identifying a first one of the plurality of users that instantiated a first set of data objects of the plurality of data objects in the data transmission system, the identifying comprising:
- identifying, in the updated data provenance graph, at least one path leading to the removal of the plurality of data objects;
- and
- determining, using the at least one path identified in the data provenance graph, that the first user instantiated the first set of data objects.
A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing instructions that, when executed by at least one processor, performs a method for tracking system for data objects of a data transmission system, the data transmission system comprising a plurality of users that can instantiate, transmit, and remove data objects in the data transmission system, the method comprising:
- detecting a first event comprising removal of a plurality of objects from the data transmission system;
- accessing, from memory, a data structure encoding a data provenance graph indicating a history of data object instantiations, data object transmissions, and data object removals in the data transmission system
- updating the data provenance graph to indicate the removal of the plurality of data objects from the data transmission system to generate an updated data provenance graph, the data provenance graph;
- and
- identifying a first one of the plurality of users that instantiated a first set of data objects of the plurality of data objects in the data transmission system, the identifying comprising:
- identifying, in the updated data provenance graph, at least one path leading to the removal of the plurality of data objects;
- and
- determining, using the at least one path identified in the data provenance graph, that the first user instantiated the first set of data objects.
