Methods, systems, and devices for data management are described. A data management system (DMS) may store snapshots at different hierarchal levels in accordance with different snapshot frequencies. For example, the DMS may store one or more sets of first-level snapshots in accordance with a first snapshot frequency and store one or more second-level snapshot in accordance with a second snapshot frequency. The first set of first-level snapshots may depend on a base snapshot. The DMS may store a first second-level snapshot as an incremental snapshot relative to the base snapshot and subsequent first-level snapshots may depend on the first second-level snapshot. When the first set of first-level snapshots expire, the DMS may delete the first set of first-level snapshots. The hierarchal structure of different snapshot frequency levels may expand for any quantity of snapshot frequency.
