A complementary hose bib protector and method of use. The complementary hose bib protector comprises a body made from a material that is water-resistant or water proof and preferred for below-ambient applications. The material may further be flexible and compressible. The complementary hose bib protector establishes a good seal against the building, hose bib and pipe, preventing water in the hose bib from freezing. The complementary hose bib protector pushes against the hose bib cover and into crevices and seals around the plumbing extending from the structure to the hose bib, thereby forming a seal and maintaining a pocket of warm air within the hose bib cover.
