Abstract
The present disclosure generally relates to a method for providing a barrier coating on a hollow container (100) comprising molded pulp. The method comprises providing a polymeric powder coating onto the interior surface (105a) and at least a portion of the exterior surface of the container (100) prior to curing and/or melting the powder coatings. The present disclosure also relates to a hollow container (100) formed by the method.
Claims19
A coating apparatus for applying a polymeric powder coating to a hollow container comprising molded pulp, the coating apparatus comprising:
- a molding device comprising an electrically conductive material and configured to receive the hollow container, the molding device comprising at least a first removable portion and a second removable portion, the first removable portion being configured to enclose an upper portion of the hollow container and the second removable portion being configured to enclose a main portion of the hollow container;
- and
- a spraying device configured to charge the polymeric powder coating prior to or during deposition of the polymeric powder,
- wherein the molding device is configured such that, with the first removable portion and the second removable portion in place, the spraying device deposits the polymeric powder coating onto an interior surface of the hollow container, and with the first removable portion removed and the second removable portion remaining in place, the spraying device deposits polymeric powder onto an exposed exterior surface of at least a portion of the upper portion of the hollow container.
A molding device for use in coating a hollow container comprising molded pulp with a polymeric powder, the molding device comprising an electrically conductive material and at least a first removable portion and a second removable portion,
- wherein the first removable portion is configured to enclose an upper portion of the hollow container,
- wherein the second removable portion is configured to enclose a main portion of the hollow container, and
- wherein the first removable portion is removable while the second removable portion remains positioned to enclose the main portion of the hollow container.
