Processes for producing hydrocarbon products include converting an ethylene stream in an oligomerization reactor by contacting the ethylene stream with an oligomerization catalyst comprising a transition metal compound or complex comprising at least one of Ti, Zr, Cr, Ni, with an alkyl aluminum compound dissolved in a hydrocarbon or etheral solvent; or an alkyl aluminum compound dissolved in a hydrocarbon or etheral solvent; for producing a first stream of C2-C30 linear alfa olefins (LAOs); separating the first stream of C2-C30 LAOs into a second stream of C2-C6 olefins, a third stream of C8-C18 olefins and paraffins, and a fourth stream of C18-C30+ olefins and paraffins; and recycling at least a portion of the C2-C6 olefins to the oligomerization reactor. The process may further comprise converting the third and fourth stream to synthetic paraffinic kerosene. Methods of retrofitting existing hydroprocessing plants are also described.
