Abstract
A can lid having a body which is adapted to engage a lip of a can. The can lid further includes a stopper which is moveably engaged with the body. The can lid even further includes an engagement mechanism which is moveably engaged with the body and the stopper. The engagement mechanism is configured to move the stopper between a locked position and an unlocked position in a two-step process. When the stopper is in the unlocked position, an aperture defined by the body is in fluid communication with an opening defined by the can. When the stopper is in a locked position, the aperture defined by the body is blocked from fluid communication with the opening defined by the can.
Claims20
A can lid comprising:
- a body adapted to engage a lip of a can;
- a stopper moveably engaged with the body;
- an engagement mechanism moveably engaged with the body and the stopper and configured to move the stopper between a locked position and an unlocked position in a two-step process;
- wherein when the stopper is in the unlocked position, an aperture defined by the body is in fluid communication with an opening defined by the can;
- and
- wherein when the stopper is in the locked position, the aperture defined by the body is blocked from fluid communication with the opening defined by the can.
A method of operating a can lid, comprising:
- engaging a body of the can lid with an upper lip of a can;
- aligning an aperture defined by the body with an opening defined in the can;
- actuating a stopper of the can lid, by an engagement mechanism of the can lid, between a locked position and an unlocked position in a two-step process;
- wherein when the stopper is in the unlocked position, the aperture defined by the body is in fluid communication with the opening defined by the can;
- and
- wherein when the stopper is in the locked position, the aperture defined by the body is blocked from fluid communication with the opening by the engagement mechanism.
