A liquid ejection device includes an ejection head including a nozzle surface in which is formed a nozzle that ejects liquid; a cap configured to seal the nozzle; a water absorbing member having a water absorbing property; a supply section that supplies, to the water absorbing member, a removal accelerating agent that accelerates removal of a solid substance resulting from solidification of liquid clinging to the nozzle surface; a first movement section configured to move at least one of the ejection head and the cap between a sealing position where the cap seals the nozzle and a separation position where the cap is separated from the nozzle; and a second movement s configured to move the water absorbing member to a position between the nozzle surface and the cap. The second movement section is configured to, by moving the water absorbing member, switch the water absorbing member between a first state in which the water absorbing member is positioned between the nozzle surface and the cap and a second state in which the water absorbing member is not positioned between the nozzle surface and the cap.
