Pre-primed giving set and compounding apparatus' and methods

A pre-primed giving set comprising:

• an IV bag with liquid,
• an outlet conduit connected to an outlet port of the bag, and
• a gas trap device connected to the conduit, said device comprising:
• a gas trap chamber,
• a priming port which is configured to allow, during compounding, gas to escape and to be sealed when all gas has been expelled,
• a trap device outlet port for connection to a line for delivery of IV liquid to a patient,
• wherein the bag, the line, and the trap device form a sealed system from which gas has been expelled.

A method of preparing a giving set for administration of intravenous therapy to a patient, the method comprising steps of:

• providing a filled IV bag with an outlet port,
• connecting an IV line (20) to the outlet port,
• connecting a gas trap device to a distal end of the IV line, the trap device having a chamber and a priming port which is open,
• squeezing the bag to force gas from the bag and through the line and out of the trap device via the priming port,
• when liquid reaches the trap device and substantially fills the chamber,
• closing the priming port, thereby providing a pre-primed giving set comprising the bag, the line and the trap device filled with liquid.
