Method for analyzing an image of a dental arch

A system for remote orthodontic monitoring, the system comprising:

• a cellphone application configured to acquire and analyze a live camera image of a dental arch of a patient to determine whether acquisition conditions are satisfactory with respect to observation of the dental arch and at least one of a retractor, mouth opening, quality of the image, wearing of a substantially transparent dental aligner, position of the dental arch or dimensions of the dental arch, and,
• when the acquisition conditions are not satisfactory, display on a cellphone an information message instructing the patient how to acquire a new analysis image;
• and
• a computing system configured to receive from the cellphone application at least one analysis image at least partially representing a substantially transparent dental aligner in a service position in which it is worn by the patient,
• analyze the at least one analysis image using a deep learning device trained by a learning base comprising more than 1000 historical images of dental arches, each historical image representing an aligner worn by a historical patient and comprising one or more historical tooth zones for at least one of which a tooth attribute value relating to a separation between the tooth represented by the historical tooth zone and the aligner represented in the historical image is assigned,
• determine, at least one probability relating to the presence of an analysis tooth zone in a location of said at least one analysis image, and the tooth attribute value of the tooth represented by the analysis tooth zone,
• determine, as a function of the at least one probability, an amplitude of separation between the aligner and the tooth represented by the analysis tooth zone, assess suitability of the aligner by determining whether at least one amplitude of separation exceeds an acceptability threshold, and
• transmit to the cellphone application an information message indicating continued use of the aligner, replacement of the aligner by a better suited aligner, or manufacture of a new aligner for the patient.
