A system can receive a protocol data unit from a user equipment via broadband cellular communications channel. The system can, based on determining that a cyclical redundancy check has failed for the protocol data unit, determine a channel estimation for the protocol data unit, transform the channel estimation from a frequency domain to a time domain, to produce a time-domain channel estimation, determine a channel history for the broadband cellular communications channel, estimate a rate of change for the broadband cellular communications channel, and input the time-domain channel estimation, the channel history, and the rate of change into a trained artificial intelligence model to produce an output that indicates whether the protocol data unit is classified as a discontinuous transmission. The system can conduct broadband cellular communications via the broadband cellular communications channel based on the output that indicates whether the protocol data unit is classified as the discontinuous transmission.
