The telematics control unit (TCU) of a vehicle having at least first and second wireless modems determines whether to use the first or the second wireless modem for data transfer between the vehicle and outside world. In some embodiments, the TCU is powered by an auxiliary battery when the vehicle is off, where the ML-based modem selection takes into account available power in the auxiliary battery and expected power usage for the data transfer by the different modems. If the current available battery power is too low or the expected power usage is too great, then the TCU will reject the data transfer.
An apparatus comprising a telematics control unit (TCU) for a vehicle, the TCU comprising a microcontroller connected to memory and to at least first and second wireless modems, wherein:
A method for an apparatus comprising a telematics control unit (TCU) for a vehicle, the method comprising the TCU
