Template matching-based prediction

A video encoding method, comprising:

• determining a first starting search point in a first reference picture based on a first vector included in a first vector prediction list of a current block in a current picture;
• searching, based on the first starting search point, a first reference region of the current block for a second vector through a template of reconstructed pixels adjacent to the current block;
• determining a second starting search point in a second reference picture based on a third vector included in the first vector prediction list or a second vector prediction list of the current block that is different from the first vector prediction list;
• searching, based on the second starting search point, a second reference region of the current block for a fourth vector through the template of reconstructed pixels adjacent to the current block;
• obtaining a prediction block of the current block based on fusing a first prediction block indicated by the second vector and a second prediction block indicated by the fourth vector;
• and
• encoding the current block into a bitstream based on the prediction block.

A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing instructions which, when executed by a processor, cause the processor to perform a method of encoding a bitstream, the method comprising:

• determining a first starting search point in a first reference picture based on a first vector included in a first vector prediction list of a current block in a current picture;
• searching, based on the first starting search point, a first reference region of the current block for a second vector through a template of reconstructed pixels adjacent to the current block;
• determining a second starting search point in a second reference picture based on a third vector included in the first vector prediction list or a second vector prediction list of the current block that is different from the first vector prediction list;
• searching, based on the second starting search point, a second reference region of the current block for a fourth vector through the template of reconstructed pixels adjacent to the current block;
• obtaining a prediction block of the current block based on fusing a first prediction block indicated by the second vector and a second prediction block indicated by the fourth vector;
• encoding the current block into a bitstream based on the prediction block;
• and
• transmitting the encoded bitstream.
