Abstract
A modular multiport converter system includes a plurality of distributed controllers, associated with different ports of the system that are able to synchronize to ensure that power drawn from the system is equal to power supplied to the system with precise timing. The distributed controllers are able to receive a clock signal from a leader controller, or from a vice leader controller in the event that leader controller is unable to function.
Claims24
A system for synchronizing multiple power sources and/or multiple demand loads, comprising:
- a central transformer connected to a plurality of ports;
- wherein each of the plurality of ports is galvanically isolated;
- one or more DC sources and/or loads connected to the central transformer and/or one or more AC sources and/or loads connected to the central transformer;
- and
- at least one master controller configured to transmit a synchronization signal to one or more distributed controllers;
- wherein the one or more distributed controllers are operable to determine minimum delay timing for at least one of the plurality of ports;
- and
- wherein the at least one master controller includes one or more fault protection modules for detecting threats, isolating affected modules, and/or autonomous restoration of operations.
A method for synchronizing multiple power sources and/or multiple demand loads, comprising:
- providing a power conversion system including:
- a central transformer connected to a plurality of ports, wherein each of the plurality of ports is galvanically isolated;
- one or more DC sources and/or loads connected to the central transformer and/or one or more AC sources and/or loads connected to the central transformer;
- at least one master controller;
- and
- one or more distributed controllers;
- generating a synchronization signal using the at least one master controller and transmitting the synchronization signal to the one or more distributed controllers;
- coordinating energy reallocation among the plurality of ports using the at least one master controller based on one or more signals from the one or more distributed controllers;
- and
- determining a phase and/or duty cycle of at least one of the plurality of ports.
A system for synchronizing multiple power sources and/or multiple demand loads, comprising:
- a central transformer connected to a plurality of ports;
- at least one distributed controller;
- and
- one or more DC sources or loads connected to the central transformer and/or one or more AC sources or loads connected to the central transformer;
- wherein the at least one distributed controller utilizes phase-locked loops (PLLs) to synchronize a phase of the plurality of ports;
- and
- wherein the at least one distributed controller is operable to communicate an amount of power supplied and/or an amount of power demanded by the one or more DC sources or loads and/or the one or more AC sources or loads to at least one other distributed controller.
