Abstract
A multicore fiber includes: a plurality of cores made of glass; a crosstalk suppressing portion made of glass and placed in between two cores from among the plurality of cores; and a cladding portion made of glass and enclosing an outer periphery of the plurality of cores and an outer periphery of the crosstalk suppressing portion. A maximum refractive index of the cores is greater than an average refractive index of the cladding portion, a minimum refractive index of the crosstalk suppressing portion is smaller than the average refractive index of the cladding portion, and distances from the two cores to the crosstalk suppressing portion are mutually different.

A multicore fiber comprising:
- a plurality of cores made of glass;
- a crosstalk suppressing portion made of glass and placed in between two cores from among the plurality of cores;
- and
- a cladding portion made of glass and enclosing an outer periphery of the plurality of cores and an outer periphery of the crosstalk suppressing portion, wherein
- a maximum refractive index of the cores is greater than an average refractive index of the cladding portion,
- a minimum refractive index of the crosstalk suppressing portion is smaller than the average refractive index of the cladding portion, and
- distances from the two cores to the crosstalk suppressing portion are mutually different.
A multicore fiber comprising:
- three or more cores made of glass;
- two or more crosstalk suppressing portions each of which is made of glass and is placed in between two cores from among the three or more cores;
- a cladding portion made of glass and enclosing an outer periphery of the three or more cores and an outer periphery of the crosstalk suppressing portions, wherein
- a maximum refractive index of the cores is greater than an average refractive index of the cladding portion,
- a minimum refractive index of the crosstalk suppressing portions is smaller than the average refractive index of the cladding portion, and
- from among the two or more crosstalk suppressing portions, at least two crosstalk suppressing portions have mutually different diameters.
