An electronic device comprising:

• a signal processing unit configured to detect a subject on the basis of a transmission signal transmitted as a transmission wave and a received signal received as a reflected wave resulting from the transmission wave being reflected by the subject, wherein
• the signal processing unit is configured to
• calculate a spectrogram R indicating the intensity of the reflected wave corresponding to a prescribed distance at a prescribed time,
• define a basis F0 to be the time-averaged basis of the spectrogram R when the subject is not present in a prescribed region,
• define a basis Fi to be the time-averaged basis of the spectrogram R when the subject is present at a prescribed position Xi (where i is an integer equal to or greater than 1) in the prescribed region, and
• calculate an activation matrix G so as to minimize the value of Y=R−FG by using a distance function on the basis of the spectrogram R, a supervisory matrix F generated from the basis F0 and the basis Fi, and the activation matrix G.

A method of controlling an electronic device, the method comprising:

• detecting a subject on the basis of a transmission signal transmitted as a transmission wave and a received signal received as a reflected wave resulting from the transmission wave being reflected by the subject;
• calculating a spectrogram R indicating the intensity of the reflected wave corresponding to a prescribed distance at a prescribed time;
• and
• defining a basis F0 to be the time-averaged basis of the spectrogram R when the subject is not present in a prescribed region, defining a basis Fi to be the time-averaged basis of the spectrogram R when the subject is present at a prescribed position Xi (where i is an integer equal to or greater than 1) in the prescribed region, and calculating an activation matrix G so as to minimize the value of Y=R−FG by using a distance function on the basis of the spectrogram R, a supervisory matrix F generated from the basis F0 and the basis Fi, and the activation matrix G.

A non-transitory computer-readable recording medium storing computer program instructions, which when executed by an electronic device, cause the electronic device to:

• detect a subject on the basis of a transmission signal transmitted as a transmission wave and a received signal received as a reflected wave resulting from the transmission wave being reflected by the subject;
• calculate a spectrogram R indicating the intensity of the reflected wave corresponding to a prescribed distance at a prescribed time;
• and
• define a basis F0 to be the time-averaged basis of the spectrogram R when the subject is not present in a prescribed region, define a basis Fi to be the time-averaged basis of the spectrogram R when the subject is present at a prescribed position Xi (where i is an integer equal to or greater than 1) in the prescribed region, and calculate an activation matrix G so as to minimize the value of Y=R−FG by using a distance function on the basis of the spectrogram R, a supervisory matrix F generated from the basis F0 and the basis Fi, and the activation matrix G.
